The text describes the Virgin Mary trying to put Baby Jesus to sleep by singing him a lullaby. The title "Fermarono i cieli" alludes to what is described in the apocryphal Gospel of James, regarding the birth of Jesus: when Jesus came into the world, the heavens stopped and the world remained still for a few moments.
